Sport Relief 2012: Go the extra mile

Birmingham gears up for Sport Relief

James Cracknell getting ready for Sports Relief in Birmingham 2012

Sport Relief is back – and it’s coming to Birmingham! The city is set to host one of the flagship Sainsbury’s Sport Relief Miles on Sunday 25th March, and needs Brummies to show their support by entering now at SportsRelief.com

Join thousands of people amidst the city’s iconic sights, including the majestic Victoria Square and St Philips Cathedral. The route will be packed full of entertainment and friendly faces (some famous) to cheer you on. Last time, more than 4900 people took part in the Birmingham Mile, and the people of the West Midlands raised and donated a massive £2.3 million. Since then, more than £2.2 million has been spent on local projects in the West Midlands.

Olympian rower James Cracknell has pledged his support for Sport Relief: “It’s that time of year again, Birmingham, Sport Relief is back! Make sure you enter your whole family into the Sainsbury’s Sport Relief Mile, which this year is happening in Birmingham on Sunday 25th March. You can choose to complete 1,3 or 6 miles, so what are you waiting for? Come on Birmingham, with your help we can help to raise money to change the lives of people both here in Birmingham, across the UK and throughout the world’s poorest countries.”

On Sunday 25th March BBC One will host the Sport Relief Mile Show which for the first time will be live in London from the Mall. From Birmingham to Belfast and Leeds to London, it will bring all the highlights as the great British public is joined by a magnitude of famous faces as they tackle 1, 3 and 6 Miles all across the UK.

Money raised from Sport Relief will be spent helping some of the most vulnerable people in the UK and across the world’s poorest countries.
