The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, whose members are sometimes known as “Mormons” regards itself as the only Christian Church authorized by Jesus Christ. The Church mirrors the original Church Christ founded during His earthly ministry in beliefs, teachings, authority and structure. Christ’s apostles prophesied that the Church founded by Christ would be lost from the earth (2 Thessalonians 2:8) and that He would restore His second before His Second coming (Acts of the Apostles 3:19-21).

After His ascension into heaven, Jesus Christ continued to reveal to His apostles how they should lead His Church. After their death, however, there was a substantial turning away from the truth, notwithstanding the righteous efforts of many believers. Eventually the authority and truths associated with the Church established by Christ disappeared.

In 1820, Jesus Christ began to restore His Church through the Prophet Joseph Smith. From a modest beginning the Church has grown to become a worldwide organization with nearly 12 million members.
