What happens on a Sunday?

The main service starts at 10.00am. We have up to 200 people on a Sunday morning but there is room for plenty more.

                                                     
The Vicar, David Kitley normally starts off with a quick welcome, reads any notices out and says an opening prayer.

We then have three hymns before the children go out to their own age specific groups. The chidren can stay in the service but we find they enjoy themselves far more in their own groups away from the boring grown ups.

What is the music like?

It is a mix of classic hymns that we will all remember from our schooldays, and modern worship songs which mix some fantastic words with some great tunes.

There is no organ. The music comes from piano, electric guitar and drums. The music is backed up by our terrific choir which like the band is made up of people of all ages.

Bible Readings and Talk

After the children have left for their groups we have two Bible readings, one from the Old Testament and one from the New Testament.

David Kitley will then give a talk based on one of the Bible readings. Although the Bible was written up to 2000 years ago, he shows it is just as relevant in our lives as it was then.

The Creed and Confession

We stand up to say the what we believe in (The Creed) and then make a Confession to God of all the things that we have done wrong in the past week. The words to both of these appear on large TV screens placed around the church.

Prayers

A member of the congregation will read the Prayers for the day and these will reflect what is happening in the world, and what is happening in people's lives here in Dartford.

If you would like someone you know, or even yourself, to be added to the prayers for that day just ask a church member before the start of service.

A somewhat strange event to the newcomer. People wander aroudn the church shaking people's hands and saying "May the peace of the Lord be with you". It is a good chance to make contact and speak to those sitting around you.

Offertory Hymn

The dreaded money bag comes around.
"The church is after your money!"

In fact the collection is very important to the running of the church, however the collection is entirely voluntary. No one knows or needs to know how much money, if any you contribute. That decision is between you and God.

Communion

This is when we remember the events of the 'Last Supper' when Jesus gave the bread and wine to his disciples saying that they represented His body and His blood.

Everyone is invited up to the front where the vicar offers bread and wine to those who have confirmed their faith in God. If you are new to church, or have yet to be confirmed, he places his hand on your head and asks God to bless you.

This is a very special part of the service and during the communion the choir sing some of the quieter hymns as people pray.

Coffee and Tea

After the final prayer and blessing members of the church bring around coffee, tea and biscuits and cake, if we are lucky. This gives people a chance to chat and catch up with friends.
