Since 1995 The Fat Cat in Leicester has been at the forefront of bar culture in the city centre. It set the seen back then in terms of the level of service and quality of products that should be available from city centre pubs and bars. Six years on and The Fat Cat is still a must among the twenty to forty-somethings; still in the same venue in the city centre but with a significant change of appearance. The traditional style of its first few years have been replaced with a more contemporary look to compliment various changes in the style of service and products the bar now provides. The refurbishment makes the bar feel twice as big introducing a larger ‘restaurant area’ whilst retaining the outside courtyard for the summer months.

Despite the changes the comfort that you immediately associate with the brand has not been lost. In fact by introducing huge leather sofas, chunky coffee tables and earthy colours on the walls this is definitely still the place to be for those evening and weekend hangouts.

Having kept the same popular menu the bar is very busy at lunchtime every day of the week. The Fat Cat is perfectly located for business lunches, breakfast meetings, and of course the ‘just the one’ at early doors. Table service is available throughout the day and is also available if you just want to drink. Food is also available all day every day with a late food menu catering for those late night hunger pains. Tables can of course be reserved in advance the booths in the restaurant area being especially popular in the evenings.

The bar itself now serves a full range of cocktails and a much more extensive range of spirits whilst keeping an excellent selection of draught lagers and cask ales. The wine list is as well stocked as ever with over 18 wines and Champagnes to choose from. Of course a full range of soft and hot drinks are to hand

The bar now enjoys the benefits of a late license allowing DJs to play every Thursday, Friday, and Saturday nights until 2am. Similarly live bands can be heard in the evening adding to the sophisticated feel of the bar. The music policy can be described as eclectic, but steering away from the more commercial sounds of other bars it aims at people who appreciate good music but do not want it to numb all of their senses. During the day motown, jazz and soul mix into funk, nu jazz and soulful house in the evenings - but there are no set rules
