Cardiff Law School is a large, well-resourced centre of excellence which plays a full role in serving the University in its mission as one of the UK's leading research institutions. In both the 1996 and 2001 Research Assessment Exercises, the Law School was graded '5' confirming the School's reputation for international excellence. The School's international reputation is reflected in the number of distinguished academics visiting from all over the world, a number of leading law journals based and edited in the School and it being the home of a range of highly regarded research centres such as BRASS and the Centre for Law & Religion.

Academic staff number 78, including eighteen Professors and six Senior Lecturers. Individual research interests are detailed in the staff list.

The School offers a range of undergraduate (LLB) and postgraduate (LLM) programmes, while the Centre for Professional Legal Studies runs the highly successful Legal Practice Course, and Bar Vocational Course. As an institution we receive a significant number of our students at both undergraduate and postgraduate level from other jurisdictions, making this a cultural diverse and friendly environment in which to study. Our teaching staff include top names in various fields of expertise. In an increasingly 'globalised' world which emphasises specialisation in the international context you can be assured studying at Cardiff Law School will help prepare you to play your part and also provide you with the skills to be able to adapt within the changing legal profession.

The Law School occupies a substantial building on the University site in the city, close to courts and major law firms. There is also a dedicated Graduate Law Building next to the School building where the postgraduate office and facilities are situated and where much of our LLM teaching takes place. Cardiff's architecturally renowned public buildings are complemented by a vibrant commercial centre and the Cardiff Bay redevelopment. The University's location in the magnificent Civic Centre is adjacent to the home of many of Cardiff's cultural and sporting activities, including the National Museum, the Welsh National Opera, the world class St. David's concert hall, Cardiff Castle, and the Millennium Stadium.

The Law School has an outstanding library close to the building with 70,000 volumes, 296 serial publications and a stock expenditure of £130K per annum (more than twice the median for UK Law Schools).

Excellent IT provision enables all staff to have individual use of networked (LAN and Internet) PCs with access to Lexis/Nexis, Westlaw UK and many other services.
